Site Host's Review: Well, it finally happened. Sixteen months in the waiting and it finally happened. To be honest, I really like the first episode. It was much better then the 3rd season premier and as good as the 2nd season premier. There are allot of new plot lines that will be developed and there are few lines that were dropped here and there that I think would foreshadow things to come. For example, when Tony says to Dr. Melfi, "There are two ways out for guys like me, can or death…" Tony is staring to think long term and realizing whom can he trust in his world. I think the season has potential. I truly hope it will be better then the last and that there will be another one to follow. By far, the best line of the episode was Silvio's. When Tony asks which 2 businesses are recession proof, Silvio responds "Certain aspects of show business and Our Thing…" In any case I give the premier 4 stars out of 5. I enjoyed the season premiere thoroughly, though I anticipated a musical theme...like season #3 with the bugging of the house to "The Peter Gunn Theme" / "Every Breath You Take" mix and season #2 with the overview of characters to Frank Sinatra's "It Was A Very Good Year". I respected this premiere because it went down to brass tax right away - with Tony's discontent with the capos, with Christopher taking revenge for his father, Corrado's upcoming trial & the financial woes that accompany it, and Ralphie's tryst with Janice. It was well acted, well written, and well worth the wait! Thanks Mr. Chase & Company for a wonderful show!

I think the season premiere absolutely stunk, to be frank. I faithfully watched every Soprano episode and this one and the episode where the stripper gets beat to a pulp was the worst. I'm Italian and I grew up around alot of mobs and I've never seen or heard beating woman and shooting heroin in the middle of toes. It makes people think Italians just beat their wives, cheat and use drugs. Another thing too Mobsters don't go to a psychiatrists. The best episode is the one where Paulie and Christopher are in the woods and are chasing the Russian. I'll see how the 2nd episode is, I hope better than the first.
The story lines are becoming too disjointed, dialogue difficult to understand and none of the Italians I know listen to black rap music. Very disappointing. I think you will lose a lot of viewers unless you keep them hooked. It's difficult to be hooked when you can't understand or follow what's going on. I, like lots of others, have been waiting for the season opener and I left the second half to go clean my closet.
I think the visitor review you have listed is pretty harsh. I followed the episode just fine while translating for my non-Soprano watching roomate who really enjoyed the translations. I think he is now going to watch the previous three seasons and become a full on junkie like the rest of us. Iactually found the episode real easy to follow but was sad to see Paulie in the can with no hint of him getting out. Anyway I can't believe anyone would leave the TV to go clean a closet after all the wait and recent hype. The comercial I saw two weeks ago gave me goosebumps.
P.S. If you can't wait the first 4 episodes (if not more) are floating around the internet, and the story line gets a lot better real fast. By Jon
After veiwing the first episode of the season I can conclude that the series is going to take some twists and turns this year. As for the trickle down effect that Carmella set in motion by asking Tony about finanacial costraints I think that put a great idealogy into motion. Tony, in turn takes this cue and lays into his crew about lack of earning. He knows what a waste of money it would be to help uncle junior out and seeing that he could nab a possible hot peice of property he gets jun to sell it to him to cover the cost of the trial. I liked paulies jail scene the most. He stole the show with that one hands down. Talking with J Sack makes it kind of obivious as to whats going to go down between tony and paulie. This is like turning the heat up on a pot of water. You look into that pot and see nothing. Only to have a rolling boil and chaos arrive in the next few minutes. I'm going to be sure and not miss one damn minute of any of these episodes this season. Things happen fast and I dont want to miss anything. All in all i'd give this episode a 3.5 out of five. My favorite and I think all time best were when Janice smoked RItchie and the Pine Barren's episodes. By Rocco
I disagree with the season 3 premiere. the opening sequence of it was awesome. the way they mixed the police song and the peter gunn theme and tied it into a story was amazing.
As for the premiere of season 4 it was good. most of all good to have the show back.
What we all need to keep in mind is that this may very well be the final season. if infact David Chase is done after this season, from what I have read so is most of the cast. end of show. it might just be the fact that they are tying things up form the get go this year. By Andrew
I thought the first show was awesome. It really set the tone for the rest of this season with story lines for each character. Does anyone know the name of the song that was played in the episode and who sings it? It sounded like Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols or Public Image Limited. By John
